Château Monbousquet 1970 Bottle (75cl)

Château Monbousquet 1970 is a red wine from Saint-Émilion in Bordeaux, produced by Château Monbousquet. Its blend brings together 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyard is located in the southern part of the appellation on soils featuring deep gravel and sandy-clay formations; this diversity explains the prominent role of the Cabernets alongside Merlot. The estate attained the rank of Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé in 2006.

Histoire du domaine

According to the estate’s historical research, the origins of Monbousquet date back to 1540, when the property belonged to François de Lescours. In 1682, it became the property of Henri de Gères, who had the manor house refurbished two years later. The vineyard was subsequently passed down within the de Gères family, then to the de Carles family through the marriage of Jeanne de Gères to François de Carles. In 1779, General de Carles had the main residence built, giving the château its current appearance. The estate then passed to Marie-Gabrielle Desaigues in 1826, then to Pierre Saujon in 1835 and to the Lacombe family in 1855. Between 1858 and 1877, the Count of Vassal-Montviel expanded the vineyard and increased production. The Querre family took over the estate in 1945; Daniel Querre then set about rebuilding the vineyard over a period of around thirty years. Chantal and Gérard Perse acquired Monbousquet in 1993 and undertook the restructuring and drainage of the vineyard, as well as the renovation of the cellars. The château was classified as a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé in 2006. In 2012, CARMF acquired the company that owned Château Monbousquet; the wine-growing operations continue to be managed separately by Monbousquet Exploitation. The estate’s cellar master and oenologist is Jean-Philippe Lavautour.
