Histoire du domaine

The origins of the vineyards that make up the estate can be traced in part back to the Chambaud family’s ownership in the 18th century. Through marriage in 1875, they passed into the Garitey family. In 1917, Madame Edouard Loubat, née Garitey and also owner of Château Pétrus, acquired the estate. She expanded it, notably with plots near the church in Pomerol, including the Clos des Grandes Vignes. On her death in 1961, the estate was passed on to her niece, Lily Lacoste. Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix took over the lease in 1962 and have been responsible for its management and winemaking ever since. The estate was subsequently bequeathed to the Foyer de Charité in Châteauneuf-de-Galaure. After more than sixty years under lease, Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix became the owners in 2024. Eric Murisasco is responsible for the technical management of the Moueix family estates.

Tasted at the Latour-à-Pomerol vertical in London. Back in 1998, one Robert Parker wrote: "Several years in the bottle could result in an excellent, perhaps outstanding Latour-à-Pomerol." Well, he was right. The 1995 Latour-à-Pomerol has blossomed into a great wine. Initially it seems a little mundane on the nose, but do not be deceived because it unfolds and offers lovely tobacco and cedar notes that might take you to Pessac-Léognan rather than Pomerol. The palate is very well proportioned, quite structured for a 1995 with much more body and substance than its 1996 counterpart. Hints of iodine sweep across the senses towards the finish that again, dupes you into thinking it might be from Pessac-Léognan. Whatever, it is an impressive Pomerol that after two decades is delivering the goods. And you know, it might improve even further. Tasted December 2015.

Vigorous, light and lively. Punchy fruit. Unashamedly fruitburst. Brought to heel by a dry finish with sufficient acidity.
