Histoire du domaine
The name Château La Violette is linked to the floral character traditionally associated with its wine. According to the history published by the estate, a description of the wine from the late 19th century – which notably evoked a scent of violets – is said to have inspired the name of the cuvée. The estate comprises four plots situated on the Pomerol plateau. It was acquired in 2006 by Vignobles Parent, then known as Vignobles Péré-Vergé, which already owned Châteaux Le Gay and Montviel. Catherine Péré-Vergé oversaw the development of these estates in Pomerol before her death in 2013. Her children, including Henri Parent, have continued the family business. The vineyard now covers 1.68 hectares and is planted with Merlot. The grapes are harvested by hand, in two or three passes depending on the ripeness of the plots, and then destemmed by hand. Vinification takes place directly in barrels, following a ‘micro-vinification’ or ‘integral vinification’ approach. Florian Pesquier currently oversees the winemaking as cellar master, whilst Philippe Thibault manages the vineyard.
