Histoire du domaine
Vines have been cultivated at La Tour de By since the 16th century. The documented origins of the estate date back to 1599, the year in which Pierre Tizon, lord of the fief of By, acquired it. Before taking its current name, the estate was known as La Roque de By. The tower that serves as its emblem was built in 1825 amidst the vineyards; at the time, it served as a lighthouse for navigation on the Gironde estuary. The present château was built in 1876 by Alfred Rubichon. In 1965, Marc Pagès, an agricultural engineer from Tunisia, helped to acquire and restore the property alongside the Lapalu and Cailloux families. He benefited in particular from the advice of the oenologist Émile Peynaud during the estate’s redevelopment. In 1999, Marc Pagès became the sole owner. His grandson, Frédéric Le Clerc, joined the estate in 2005; it is now owned by Frédéric Le Clerc and his cousin Benjamin Richer de Forges. Bastien Lapena is listed as cellar master in the 2026 Green Guide published by *La Revue du vin de France*.
