Histoire du domaine
The history of La Tour Carnet dates back to the Middle Ages, when the château was known as Château de Saint-Laurent. The estate’s historical tradition links its name to the squire Carnet, to whom Jean de Foix is said to have bequeathed the château in 1485. The vineyard is said to have been established in the early 15th century. The estate was classified as a Quatrième Grand Cru in the 1855 Médoc wine classification. Following a period of decline linked in particular to crises in the wine industry and wars, the estate was taken over by the Bordeaux shipowner Louis Lipschitz in the early 1970s. He restored the buildings and replanted part of the vineyard, before his daughter Marie-Claire Pèlegrin took over the work from 1978 onwards. Bernard Magrez acquired the estate in 1999, and subsequently undertook work on the château, the vineyard and the winemaking facilities. The estate also has an experimental programme dedicated to studying grape varieties likely to be better suited to climate change. In 2026, Gérald Martinez is listed as technical director of La Tour Carnet.
