Histoire du domaine
In 1969, the La Gaffelière estate yielded the remains of a Gallo-Roman villa, known as the Villa du Palat, providing evidence of ancient settlement on these lands. The name ‘Gaffelière’ is linked to a former leper colony established at the foot of Saint-Émilion in the Middle Ages. The Malet de Roquefort family was formed in 1654, following the marriage of Louis de Malet to Marguerite de Calvimont, heiress to the Château de Roquefort in Lugasson. This branch of the family’s connection with La Gaffelière dates back to 17 November 1705, the date of the marriage of Louis II Malet de Roquefort to Isabeau de Bonneau, daughter of the château’s owner. The estate has remained in the Malet de Roquefort family ever since. Léo de Malet Roquefort carried out his first grape harvest there in 1959, before being joined by his son Alexandre in 2011. Alexandre de Malet Roquefort is now co-owner of the estate alongside his sister Bérangère and his brother Guillaume. Franck Darricau is responsible for vineyard management and winemaking, with Derenoncourt Consulting acting as oenological consultants.
