Histoire du domaine
The estate was formerly known as Lassalle. In the mid-18th century, the Irishman Mark Kirwan, from a family of wine merchants based in Galway, settled in Bordeaux and gave his name to the property. He helped to build its reputation in the Bordeaux wine trade. In 1855, Château Kirwan was classified as a third growth of the Médoc; this period was also marked by the involvement of Camille Godard. He restored the château and landscaped the estate’s grounds. In 1902, Armand Schÿler concluded an agreement to purchase future harvests from Kirwan. The château passed into the hands of the Schÿler family in 1926, a family of Bordeaux wine merchants who had been established in the city since 1739. In the 1960s, Jean-Henri Schÿler undertook a programme to replant the vineyard. Philippe Delfaut has been managing director and head of winemaking at the estate since 2007.
