Histoire du domaine
The Despagne family has long been established in Saint-Émilion; the estate’s website cites documents attesting to its connection with this region in the 13th and 14th centuries. The oldest known family document relates to the baptism, in 1665, of the son of Pierre Despagne and Lison Raynaud. Their descendant, Louis Despagne, born in 1789, played a decisive role in establishing the estate. In 1812, whilst his family were sharecroppers at Cheval Blanc, he settled in the locality known as Grand Corbin and acquired the family’s first plots of land there. His son subsequently expanded the vineyard, then known as Grand-Corbin, owned by Despagne. The name Château Grand Corbin-Despagne first appeared towards the end of the 19th century. In the 20th century, Paul Despagne left his mark on the estate’s history through his work as a winemaker. François Despagne now runs the château and represents the seventh generation of the family on this terroir; he has been at the helm of the estate since 1996. Pascal Llorca is listed as cellar master in the 2026 edition of the Green Guide published by *La Revue du vin de France*.
