Histoire du domaine
The estate’s origins date back to 1452, the year in which Jean de Briscos is mentioned in Pez. In 1526, the archives cited by Maisons Marques et Domaines refer to a certain Ducos as the owner of the estate. Jean de Pontac became the owner in 1585; the Pontac family, also linked to Château Haut-Brion, contributed to the development of winegrowing in Pez. The estate remained in this family’s hands until the French Revolution. Sold at that time as national property, it subsequently passed into the hands of the Tarteiron, Balguerie, Lawton, du Vivier, Bernard and Dousson families. In the 18th century, the estate’s architecture evolved to take on the appearance of a château. Champagne Louis Roederer acquired Château de Pez in June 1995 and began renovation work on the vineyard and the wine cellar. Nicolas Glumineau, managing director and winemaker, has been in charge of the estate since 2012. A new stainless-steel fermentation tank was commissioned in 2018 to enable plot-by-plot vinification.
