Histoire du domaine
Château d’Aiguilhe is a former fortified farmstead, the remains of which date back to the 13th century. In the Middle Ages, the seigneury of Aiguilhe controlled a vast territory comprising several fiefdoms. Situated in an area of conflict between the French and the English during the Hundred Years’ War, it played a strategic role and changed allegiance as its lords switched sides. The estate subsequently belonged to the d’Albret family, then to the Leberthons, a family that produced several members of the Bordeaux Parliament. On the eve of the French Revolution, the Leberthons sold the property to Étienne Martineau. He consolidated it into a single estate of around 400 hectares, which remained in his family until 1920. Stephan von Neipperg acquired Château d’Aiguilhe at the end of 1998 and incorporated it into Vignobles Comtes von Neipperg. The estate now comprises 140 hectares of land, 90 hectares of which are vineyards. Ludovic von Neipperg joined the family business in March 2021 as technical director and is responsible for winemaking across the group.
