Clos Fourtet
Clos Fourtet is an estate in Saint-Émilion, situated on the outskirts of the village, on the upper slopes of the western limestone plateau. Its vineyard, managed by the Cuvelier family since 2001, rests on clay-limestone soils and overlooks former underground quarries used for ageing the wines. Merlot is the predominant grape variety, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Histoire du domaine
The Clos Fourtet website is linked to the former ‘Camp Fourtet’, a fortified structure that protected Saint-Émilion in the Middle Ages. The land belonged, notably, to the Rulleau family, who have been part of the estate’s history since the early 18th century. The estate took the name Clos Fourtet in the 19th century. Fernand Ginestet acquired it in 1919. In 1949, the estate passed to François Lurton, and remained in the Lurton family for over half a century. Clos Fourtet has been listed amongst the Premiers Grands Crus Classés since the first Saint-Émilion classification in 1955. Philippe Cuvelier bought the estate in 2001 and entrusted its general management to his son Matthieu. A new wine-making facility was inaugurated for the 2014 vintage. The Cuvelier family also acquired the neighbouring estate, Les Grandes Murailles, in 2013; its two hectares were incorporated into Clos Fourtet from the 2022 vintage onwards. Emmanuel de Saint Salvy is now in charge of technical management and has direct responsibility for winemaking.
