Histoire du domaine
The origins of Certan-Giraud date back to the estate of the de May family, who settled on the Pomerol plateau in the 16th century and founded one of the appellation’s earliest vineyards. This historic estate also gave rise to Vieux Château Certan and Château Certan de May. During the 1950s, the estate was run under the name Château Certan-Giraud by the Giraud family. Data published in the Green Guide of *La Revue du vin de France* in the early 2000s indicated 7.5 hectares under vine and an annual production of 46,600 bottles; these figures are historical and no longer reflect an independent estate. In 1999, Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix acquired Château Certan-Giraud. The estate was subsequently divided into two parts. The highest-lying plots on the plateau, retained by Moueix, were renamed Château Hosanna and now cover 4.5 hectares. The other part of the vineyard was subsequently sold. Certan-Giraud therefore no longer exists as an independent producer.
