Histoire du domaine
The estate’s origins date back to the 18th century, when it was known as Château Gorce, after the family who owned it at the time. In 1833, Baron Hector de Brane acquired the property after selling Brane-Mouton, which would later become Château Mouton Rothschild. He gave his name to the estate, which became Château Brane-Cantenac. The estate was classified as a second growth in the official 1855 classification of Médoc and Sauternes wines. In 1866, Hector de Brane sold the estate to the Roy family. After the First World War, the château passed through the hands of a consortium of wine merchants and winegrowers before being acquired in 1925 by Léonce Récapet and his son-in-law François Lurton. In the mid-1950s, Lucien Lurton took over Brane-Cantenac and ran it for nearly forty years. His son, Henri Lurton, took over the management of the estate in 1992. In 2022, Henri Lurton handed the estate over to his children whilst retaining management control. Audrey Ricordi has been cellar master since 2025, alongside Christophe Capdeville, the estate manager.
