Histoire du domaine
The Deutz house was founded in Aÿ in 1838 by William Deutz and Pierre-Hubert Geldermann, two wine merchants originally from Aachen, in partnership with Édouard Lambry. The company initially operated under the name Lambry, Geldermann and Deutz. In the late 1860s, René Deutz and Alfred Geldermann succeeded their fathers. The company was known as Deutz and Geldermann from 1860 onwards, before undergoing several changes of name in the early 20th century, notably to Lallier-Van Cassel, Durvin and Co. in 1904 and then Lallier Successor in 1914. It reverted to the name Deutz and Geldermann in 1927. The name Deutz was adopted in 1993. On 5 July 1993, Louis Roederer acquired a 60 per cent stake in Champagne Deutz Grands Vins following a capital increase; the house then came under the control of the Rouzaud family. Deutz is now part of the Roederer Collection, and its vineyard is listed as covering 45 hectares by the Union des Maisons de Champagne. Caroline Latrive currently holds the position of cellar master, whilst Marc Hoellinger is chairman and chief executive.
Amour de Deutz
Amour de Deutz is a vintage prestige cuvée crafted exclusively from Chardonnay, mostly originating from the Grands Crus of the Côte des Blancs, complemented depending on the vintage by Premiers Crus from the Montagne de Reims. Produced only in years selected by the Maison, it benefits from prolonged aging in the cellar. It aims for fruit purity, chalky brilliance, and a broad, deep, and persistent expression.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name "Amour" celebrates the power of emotion rather than a historical figure and translates a declaration of love to Champagne and its great Chardonnay terroirs.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1993
- Style of the cuvée
- A luminous, precise, and elegant Blanc de Blancs, combining freshness, chalky purity, fine texture, and a voluptuous mouthfeel. Its blending and long aging seek a balance between tension, width, depth, and length.
- Position within the range
- Prestige cuvée of the Maison, alongside William Deutz and Amour de Deutz Rosé.
Histoire de la cuvée
Created from the 1993 harvest, Amour de Deutz was launched in 2000 with this first vintage to celebrate the joy and optimism linked to the new millennium. It brought to Deutz's prestige range an expression focused on great Chardonnays, complementing the William Deutz cuvée dominated by Pinot Noir.
