The 2022 Domaine Yves Girardin Santenay 1er Cru La Maladière is a red Burgundy wine from the Santenay appellation, classified as Premier Cru. This cuvée from the La Maladière parcel is crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir. The grapes are hand-harvested and entirely destemmed, followed by a cold prefermentation maceration prior to fermentation. Histoire du domaine
The Girardin family has been cultivating vines for thirteen generations. The estate developed in the 1960s under the impetus of Jean Girardin, particularly around Château de la Charrière. During the division of the 12-hectare family farm in 1981, Yves Girardin received 3 hectares, then gradually expanded his vineyard through acquisitions in Chassagne-Montrachet and Pommard. In 2003, he took over Château de la Charrière, a family property located in Santenay, and had a new winery built. After studies in Beaune and Bordeaux, his son Benoît joined the estate in 2011, became co-manager in 2018, and, along with Yves, gave his name to the EARL Domaine Yves et Benoît Girardin starting in December 2019. Yves Girardin stepped down as co-manager on December 31, 2020, leaving Benoît Girardin as sole manager and person in charge of vinification.
La Maladière
La Maladière is a demarcated climat of the Santenay appellation, officially classified as Premier Cru and located mid-slope between Santenay and Santenay-le-Haut. Its steep slope faces mainly south and south-east. The soils, thin and stony, are clay-limestone and become more marly in the lower part of the climat. The substrate is described as fractured limestone covered with marls.

Histoire de la parcelle
Local tradition links this climat to land given by a nobleman to the Chagny leper hospital, likely before the 13th century. Its name thus preserves the memory of medieval establishments intended for the sick, usually located away from dwellings.
