Histoire du domaine
William Grant began building the Glenfiddich distillery in 1886 with the help of his nine children and a bricklayer. After a year of construction, the first distillate flowed from the stills on 25 December 1887. The name Glenfiddich means ‘valley of the stag’ in Scottish Gaelic. In 1923, Grant Gordon, the founder’s grandson, joined the family business and increased production at a time when the American Prohibition was affecting the sector. In 1957, Charles Gordon brought in a team of boilermakers to the site to maintain and manufacture the stills. A cooperage was then established at the distillery in 1959. The triangular bottle, designed by Hans Schleger, was introduced in 1961. In 1963, Sandy Grant Gordon began promoting Glenfiddich outside Scotland, at a time when single malt was still relatively unknown internationally. Glenfiddich remains part of William Grant & Sons, a company owned by the founder’s family. Brian Kinsman, appointed Glenfiddich’s Malt Master in 2009, oversees the blending and monitoring of the brand’s whiskies.
