Tenuta di Trinoro
Tenuta di Trinoro is an isolated estate in the Val d’Orcia, near Sarteano, dedicated primarily to Bordeaux grape varieties, with a central role given to Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Its 24 hectares of vines, established at altitudes between approximately 450 and 600 meters, give birth to the grand vin Tenuta di Trinoro, the Merlot Palazzi, the three Cabernet Franc crus Campo di Magnacosta, Campo di Tenaglia, and Campo di Camagi, as well as Le Cupole.

Histoire du domaine
Andrea Franchetti acquired this property in southeastern Tuscany in the 1980s, when it was largely covered by woods and abandoned land. Following a period of training in Bordeaux, where he deepened his understanding of the concept of terroir, he recognized clay-limestone and gravelly soils at Trinoro that reminded him of Saint-Émilion and Pomerol. In 1991, he planted his first high-density vineyards with plant material brought back from Bordeaux; after several years of experimentation, the first commercial release of Tenuta di Trinoro appeared with the 1997 vintage. The estate subsequently developed Palazzi, Le Cupole, and, starting with the 2014 vintage, the three single-parcel selections of Cabernet Franc grouped under the name I Campi: Campo di Magnacosta, Campo di Tenaglia, and Campo di Camagi. Andrea Franchetti passed away in December 2021. His son Mario Alberto Benjamin Franchetti succeeded him at the head of the estate, supported in production by oenologist and cellar master Lorenzo Fornaini as well as director Calogero Portannese.
Palazzi
Palazzi is a Merlot cuvée created in reference to the great wines of Bordeaux's Right Bank. Initially blended with Cabernet Franc, it has been produced as pure Merlot since its relaunch in 2009, from a selection of batches and plots from the estate. It is aged in barriques and then, according to recent practices, continues its refinement in concrete vats.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1997
- Style of the cuvée
- Intense, broad and fleshy Merlot, combining ripe fruit, freshness and minerality. The ageing brings richness and complexity, while its elegant structure allows it to be accessible upon release while maintaining an aptitude for ageing.
- Position within the range
- One of the two flagship wines of Tenuta di Trinoro, alongside the eponymous cuvée.
Histoire de la cuvée
Andrea Franchetti produced Palazzi for the first time in 1997. Crafted from 1997 to 1999 with a proportion of Cabernet Franc, the cuvée was then interrupted for ten years, as Franchetti was not satisfied with its expression. The quality of the Merlot harvested in 2009 led him to relaunch Palazzi, henceforth crafted as pure Merlot.
