Joguet Franc de Pied 2004 Bouteille (75cl)
Charles Joguet Franc de Pied 2004 is a red Chinon wine from the Loire, made from 100% Cabernet Franc and originating from the Les Varennes du Grand Clos plot. This Franc de Pied cuvée is crafted from one hectare of ungrafted vines, planted in 1982 with INRA and then partially replanted in 1992 and 1995. The estate vinifies it separately only in vintages where this selection fully expresses its singularity. The yield is limited to 30 hl/ha. After ten days of cold pre-fermentation maceration and at least four weeks of vatting, the wine is aged for 15 to 16 months in partially renewed French oak barrels, followed by six months of refinement in vats prior to bottling.

Histoire du domaine
The winemaking history of the family-owned Sazilly estate dates back to at least 1830; the Clos de la Dioterie was already planted with vines before the French Revolution. In 1957, on the death of his father, Charles Joguet took over the family estate after studying painting and sculpture in Paris, and established the estate under his own name. He introduced a plot-by-plot winemaking approach to Chinon, inspired by the Burgundian model, and was involved in the development of stainless-steel vats designed for punch-down. He planted La Cure and Les Varennes du Grand Clos in 1962, then acquired and planted the Clos du Chêne Vert in 1976. In 1985, Jacques and Marie-Françoise Genet joined forces with Charles Joguet, bringing the Silènes and Clos Monplaisir plots to the estate. A large tuffeau stone cellar was acquired in 1989 for ageing the wines. Charles Joguet retired from the wine business in 1997 to devote himself to his artistic work, whilst the Genet family continued to run the estate. Kevin Fontaine joined the business in 2006 and took charge of the vineyard and winemaking; Anne-Charlotte Genet joined the business the same year to take charge of sales. The transition to organic farming, which began in the 2000s, led to Ecocert certification from the 2016 vintage onwards. The estate is now owned by Jacques Genet and his family.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- Cuvée creation year
- 1982
- Style of the cuvée
- Position within the range
