Gaja Barbaresco 1970 Bouteille (75cl)
Gaja Barbaresco 1970 is an Italian red wine from Piedmont, produced by Angelo Gaja in the Barbaresco appellation. It is made from 100% Nebbiolo, the emblematic grape variety of the great reds of the Langhe. This historic cuvée from the Gaja family has been produced since 1859 and blends grapes from several vineyards located in the commune of Barbaresco. The 1970 vintage thus serves as an aged testimony to the house's style in its appellation of origin.

Histoire du domaine
The Gaja estate was founded in 1859 in Barbaresco by Giovanni Gaja. Five generations of the family have since succeeded one another at the helm of the business. Clotilde Rey, followed by her son Giovanni Gaja, played a key role in shaping the estate’s focus on quality and in the acquisition of plots in Barbaresco, including Sorì San Lorenzo, Sorì Tildìn and Costa Russi. In 1961, the estate decided to vinify only grapes from its own vineyards and made Barbaresco its flagship wine. From the late 1960s onwards, it began to highlight the specific plot origins of certain wines. Angelo Gaja then introduced agronomic and oenological changes, notably higher planting densities, green harvesting, controlled winemaking temperatures and the use of barriques alongside large vats. The family expanded its operations into Tuscany with the acquisition of Pieve Santa Restituta in Montalcino in 1994, followed by Ca’ Marcanda in Bolgheri in 1996. Gaia, Rossana and Giovanni Gaja now represent the fifth generation at the helm of the company. Rossana Gaja is currently in charge of production.
