Guigal Hermitage Ex Voto Blanc 2012 Bouteille (75cl)
Guigal Hermitage Ex Voto Blanc 2012 is a white wine from the Hermitage appellation in the northern Rhône, produced by Domaine Etienne Guigal. This cuvée combines 90% Marsanne and 10% Roussanne. It originates predominantly from the Les Murets lieu-dit, complemented by a portion from the Hermite sector, set on steep vineyards. The vines, averaging around 80 years of age, are vinified in new barrels, and the wine is aged for 30 months in new oak casks before bottle refinement. Ex Voto Blanc is only produced during vintages deemed exceptional by the estate.

Histoire du domaine
Étienne Guigal founded Maison Guigal in Ampuis in 1946, having worked at Vidal-Fleury from 1924 onwards and played a part in the development of this Rhône-based estate. He produced wine from 67 vintages in Côte-Rôtie during his career. In 1961, his son Marcel Guigal took over the management of the business alongside his father, who had lost his sight. Bernadette Guigal joined the family business in 1973. The company acquired the Vidal-Fleury estates in the early 1980s, whilst maintaining their identity and commercial autonomy. In 1995, the family acquired Château d’Ampuis, on the banks of the Rhône. Philippe Guigal, who trained in oenology, officially joined the company in 1997 after having been involved in the technical aspects for several years. In 2001, the acquisition of the Jean-Louis Grippat and Vallouit estates expanded the family’s vineyards in the Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage appellations. The company established its own cooperage at Château d’Ampuis in 2003. Philippe Guigal is now managing director and head of winemaking, alongside Marcel Guigal, chairman of the family business.
Ex Voto
Ex-Voto is an Ermitage cuvée produced only in vintages deemed exceptional, in both red and white. The red blends several sectors of the hill, notably Les Bessards, Les Greffieux, Les Murets, and L’Hermite; the white comes principally from Les Murets, complemented by L’Hermite. Both wines benefit from prolonged aging in new oak barrels.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- “Ex-Voto” evokes the fulfillment of Marcel Guigal's long-standing wish to own vines on the Hermitage hill and to produce an exceptional wine there.
- Cuvée creation year
- 2001
- Style of the cuvée
- The red generally presents a powerful, concentrated, and heavily structured profile, with a great aging potential. The white is full-bodied, rich, complex, and aromatic. In both colors, the long aging in new wood contributes to an opulent style marked by roasted notes.
- Position within the range
- Rare and prestigious Ermitage cuvée, classified among the “Trésors” at the pinnacle of the Guigal range.
Histoire de la cuvée
After nearly fifteen years dedicated to building a winegrowing heritage on the Hermitage hill, the Guigal family launched Ex-Voto with the 2001 vintage, in both red and white. The cuvée embodies Marcel Guigal's project to produce a great estate wine expressing this appellation and is marketed only when its quality is judged to be clearly superior to that of the classic Hermitage cuvées.
