Histoire du domaine
The Schueller family is presented as coming from a lineage of farmers established in the region since the 16th century. Gérard Schueller founded the modern wine estate in 1958 in Husseren-les-Châteaux. Following his oenological training, his son Bruno joined the estate in 1982 and took charge of vinification, while Gérard mainly dedicated himself to the vineyards. Bruno then progressively took over the family estate and developed his personal approach to the great terroirs of Eichberg, Pfersigberg, and Bildstœcklé. Legal documents of the EARL record, in 2015, a transfer of shares from Gérard and his wife to Bruno Schueller; he has been registered as the manager of EARL Gérard Schueller et Fils since February 19, 2019. Current bottle production is not published in a sufficiently recent and reliable manner; a past profile from the Revue du vin de France indicated 48,000 bottles per year for seven hectares, historical figures that no longer appear representative of the current area of ten hectares.
LN012
LN012 is a distinct Pinot Noir cuvée released under the Alsace appellation by Gérard Schueller et Fils. Its name is tied to the very low sulfur level measured during initial bottling. It stands out from the estate's other Pinot Noirs, notably Pinot Noir, Bildstoecklé, and Le Chant des Oiseaux.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- “LN” stands for “Lot Number” and “012” refers to the 12 mg/L of SO₂ measured at bottling for the first vintage in 1997.
- Cuvée creation year
- 1997
- Style of the cuvée
- Alsace Pinot Noir crafted with a low-intervention approach, generally unfiltered, favoring freshness, finesse, and a direct expression of the grape.
- Position within the range
- Signature Pinot Noir cuvée, distinct from the generic, Bildstoecklé, and Le Chant des Oiseaux versions.
Histoire de la cuvée
The first documented production dates back to the 1997 vintage. The measurement of 12 mg/L of SO₂ at the bottling of this first vintage is said to have provided the number “012”, kept as the name of the cuvée.
