Histoire du domaine
The Mugneret family settled in Vosne-Romanée in 1930. Jeanne Gibourg and André Mugneret, who married in 1928, founded Domaine Mugneret-Gibourg in 1933. There, they produced red Burgundies, including Vosne-Romanée, Nuits-Saint-Georges and Échezeaux. Their only son, Georges Mugneret, an ophthalmologist in Dijon, continued the family’s wine-making business alongside his medical practice. He gradually expanded the vineyard through acquisitions at Clos Vougeot in 1953, in Nuits-Saint-Georges in 1971, in Ruchottes-Chambertin in 1977, and then at Les Vignes Rondes and Les Feusselottes in the 1980s. Following his death in 1988, his wife Jacqueline ensured the estate’s continuity alongside their daughter Marie-Christine, who was soon joined by Marie-Andrée after she completed her studies in oenology at the University of Burgundy. In 2009, Domaines Mugneret-Gibourg and Georges Mugneret merged under the name Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. The estate is now run by Marie-Christine and Marie-Andrée, whilst Lucie and Marion, their respective eldest daughters, joined the business in 2017 and 2018. The two sisters oversee the winemaking process directly, from the hand-harvesting to the blending and bottling at the estate.
Aux Chaignots
Aux Chaignots is a climat officially classified as Premier Cru of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, located in the northern part of the village territory, towards Vosne-Romanée. It occupies the upper part of the slope and benefits from a documented south-east exposure. A source describing the climat as a whole indicates an altitude of 260 to 280 meters and a fairly deep soil dominated by gravel. The slope and detailed geology of the entire climat are not established with sufficient precision in the sources consulted.

- Origin of the vineyard name
- Disputed etymology: "Chaignot" is said to be a Burgundian diminutive of "Châgne", derived from the Old French "Chasne" (oak), evoking an ancient oak grove; an origin linked to iron-rich soil is also suggested.

Histoire de la parcelle
Aux Chaignots belongs to the group of climats recognized as Premier Cru within the AOC Nuits-Saint-Georges, an appellation created on September 11, 1936. Its name likely preserves the memory of ancient oaks present in this sector, but this interpretation remains debated.
