Domaine du Marquis d'Angerville
Domaine Marquis d’Angerville is a family-run estate based in Volnay, in the heart of the Côte de Beaune. Run by Guillaume d’Angerville, the sixth generation of the family, it cultivates around 16.5 hectares, mainly in Volnay, as well as plots in Meursault and Pommard. The Clos des Ducs, the estate’s exclusive vineyard in Volnay, is one of its historic sites.

Histoire du domaine
The estate’s land origins date back to the former holdings of the Dukes of Burgundy in Volnay, where a royal inventory from 1507 describes several ‘climats’ that are still cultivated today. The Clos des Ducs formed part of this estate and at that time corresponded to the vineyards known as ‘Sous Roiches’. In 1804, Baron du Mesnil acquired the Clos des Ducs and neighbouring plots in Volnay, bringing the estate into the family. His son, Eugène du Mesnil, subsequently passed the property on in 1888 to his nephew and godson, Sem, Marquis d’Angerville. Following the phylloxera crisis, Sem d’Angerville effectively took over the estate at the start of the 20th century and began replanting it from 1906 onwards, notably with Pinot Noir. He developed on-estate bottling and direct sales, in the context of opposition to certain practices of the Beaune wine trade. He also played a part in the founding of the National Institute of Appellations of Origin and, together with Henri Gouges, in drawing up a hierarchy of Burgundian crus and climats in 1935. Jacques d’Angerville joined the estate in 1950, took over in 1952 and ran it until his death in July 2003. Guillaume d’Angerville then took over the management of the estate and began its conversion to biodynamic farming, which was completed in 2009. François Duvivier, who joined the estate in 2005, is now its estate manager and oversees viticulture, winemaking and ageing.
Les Combes Dessus
Les Combes Dessus is a climat and cadastral lieu-dit of Pommard officially admitted to the benefit of the Premier Cru designation. With a published surface area of 2.78 ha, it is located at the southern extremity of the Pommard winegrowing area, at the gates of Volnay, and benefits from a documented southern exposure. The available pedological descriptions mainly concern the entire appellation or this lower slope sector and do not allow for the attribution with certainty of a specific soil or substrate to the entire climat.

Histoire de la parcelle
Les Combes Dessus explicitly appears in the AOC Pommard product specification among the climats authorized to bear the "Premier Cru" designation, corresponding to the homonymous cadastral lieu-dit. This recognition is part of the historical demarcation of the Pommard appellation, recognized as an AOC in 1936; no more precise individual history of the climat was found in the consulted institutional sources.
