Domain Marcel Deiss Huebuhl 2007
The 2007 Domaine Marcel Deiss Huebuhl is an Alsatian white wine crafted from a blend of Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Riesling. Awarded 91/100 by The Wine Advocate, which recommends drinking it between 2010 and 2025, the review highlights a very sweet style reminiscent of a late-harvest wine. It pairs notes of sage and mint with hints of quince, orange marmalade, botrytis honey, and white flowers, leading into a long, lingering finish.

Histoire du domaine
The Deiss family has been established in Alsace for several generations; the estate states that they settled there following the Thirty Years’ War and the province’s annexation by France. Marcel Deiss founded the estate in Bergheim in 1947, after the Second World War. He developed the estate alongside his son André. Jean-Michel Deiss, Marcel’s grandson, subsequently took over the family estate and focused his work on interpreting the wines through the lens of terroir and soil rather than solely through the grape variety. The estate adopted organic farming in 1994, followed by biodynamic practices across all its plots in 1997. Mixed planting – which involves combining several grape varieties within the same plot and harvesting and vinifying them together – became a central principle of the estate’s operations. Mathieu Deiss joined the estate in 2008 and took charge of winemaking. He now runs the estate, with the support of Jean-Michel Deiss.

The estate describes it as rich, aromatic, unctuous, and very vibrant.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- The name comes from the Huebuhl terroir, which the estate describes as literally meaning "the early and humid place," accompanied by the phrase "Where the hedge grows."
- Style of the cuvée
- Sweet to luscious white wine, ample, rich, and aromatic, combining unctuousness and depth with structured acidity, high vibrancy, and a fresh, mineral expression.
- Position within the range
- Terroir wine classified by the estate at the "Premier Cru pending hierarchical classification" level.
