Domain Jean-Yves Bizot Bourgogne Blanc Les Violettes 1999
The 1999 Domaine Jean-Yves Bizot Bourgogne Blanc Les Violettes is a white Burgundy produced by Domaine Jean-Yves Bizot. This single-plot cuvée is 100% Chardonnay and takes its name from the Les Violettes lieu-dit. Located near the Clos de Vougeot, the plot is planted with old vines established in 1939 and 1940, a helpful benchmark for identifying this rare white expression from the estate.

Histoire du domaine
Domaine Jean-Yves Bizot has its roots in a family wine-growing heritage in Vosne-Romanée. Jean-Yves Bizot, originally trained as a geologist, also undertook training in oenology before taking over the family estate in the mid-1990s. Sources differ slightly as to whether the takeover took place in 1994 or 1995; Bizot himself cited 1995 in an interview published in 2017. His first vintage is generally given as 1998. The family vineyard he took over at that time covered approximately 2.5 hectares, according to several industry sources. An additional hectare was added to the estate in 2007, bringing the total area under cultivation to 3.5 hectares. Jean-Yves Bizot has developed a vineyard management approach inspired by organic principles, although no certification is claimed in the sources consulted. From very early on, he sought to limit the use of additives in the cellar, particularly the use of sulphur, and carries out the winemaking himself. The estate produces wines from several Burgundy appellations, including Vosne-Romanée, Échézeaux, Marsannay and Bourgogne.
Les Violettes
Les Violettes is a cadastral climat or lieu-dit in Flagey-Echézeaux, included within the Village-level appellation area of Vosne-Romanée. It covers 1.3625 hectares in cadastral section D3 and is located immediately south of Clos de Vougeot, from which it is separated by a small road and the grand cru's enclosing wall. Since the Vosne-Romanée appellation is reserved for red wines, the Chardonnay grown in this climat is notably commercialized under the Bourgogne blanc appellation.

Les Violettes appears in the cadastral inventory drawn up for the Climats du vignoble de Bourgogne dossier, with plots 372 to 391 and 642 to 644 of section D3, registered in 1979. The long-standing presence of Chardonnay in this sector is perpetuated by the Bourgogne blanc Les Violettes from Domaine Jean-Yves Bizot, but no precise historical origin for the lieu-dit has been found in the sources consulted.
