Histoire du domaine

The history of Domaine d’Auvenay is linked to the Leroy family, who have been involved in the Burgundy wine trade since the founding of Maison Leroy in 1868. Lalou Bize-Leroy inherited the Domaine d’Auvenay with her sister upon the death of their father, Henri Leroy, in 1980. She bought out her sister’s share in 1990 and became the sole owner of the estate situated near Saint-Romain. The core of the vineyard consists mainly of family-owned plots in Meursault and Auxey-Duresses. Between 1989 and 1995, Lalou Bize-Leroy gradually expanded the vineyard by acquiring plots in the Côte de Beaune and the Côte de Nuits. These acquisitions included, in particular, plots in Les Folatières in Puligny-Montrachet, in Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet, in Chevalier-Montrachet, in Bonnes-Mares and in Mazis-Chambertin. The winery was refurbished in 1994. Lalou Bize-Leroy personally oversees the running of the estate and the winemaking decisions, continuing the biodynamic practices applied across her estates.

Parcelle & terroir

Les Narvaux

Les Narvaux is a village terroir in Meursault located high on the slope, above the Premiers Crus Genevrières and Porusot. This traditional name notably covers the cadastral lieux-dits Les Narvaux Dessus, Les Narvaux Dessoux, and Les Gorges de Narvaux, which the BIVB lists separately. The slope, which is steep and oriented mainly from east to south-east depending on the sector, features clay-limestone soils that are often thin, stony, and well-drained. The terroir covers approximately 16.22 hectares and falls under the Meursault appellation without Premier Cru classification.

Histoire de la parcelle

The current official nomenclature distinguishes Les Narvaux Dessus, Les Narvaux Dessoux, and Les Gorges de Narvaux, all located in the cadastral section BK of Meursault. The collective name “Narvaux” nevertheless remains traditionally used by producers for wines coming from one or more of these sectors. These lieux-dits fall under the AOC Meursault, established on July 31, 1937, but do not appear among its officially classified Premier Cru climats.

2011 - 2030

The 2001 Meursault Les Narvaux is drinking brilliantly today, wafting from the glass with aromas of fresh peach, mandarin orange, buttered toast and sesame. Full-bodied, satiny and enveloping, it's a deep and textural wine, with a fleshy attack, ripe but racy acids and considerable concentration, concluding with a long and sapid finish.
