Histoire du domaine
Richard Hennessy, an Irish officer in the service of the King of France, founded a brandy trading house in Cognac in 1765. The company rapidly expanded its international shipments, with the first documented deliveries to the United States taking place in 1794. In the early 19th century, Hennessy entrusted the blending of its cognacs to the Fillioux family; Christophe Fillioux became the first cellar master of this lineage. In 1817, James Hennessy created the Very Superior Old Pale, which gave rise to the designation V.S.O.P. In 1865, Maurice Hennessy helped to establish a star-based classification system for cognacs. He then created the X.O. cognac in 1870, initially intended for a family circle. In 1987, the merger of Moët Hennessy and Louis Vuitton gave rise to the LVMH group, to which Hennessy is now affiliated. Renaud Fillioux de Gironde, nephew of Yann Fillioux, was appointed master blender in July 2017; he represents the eighth generation of the Fillioux family to hold this position at the house. Hennessy currently cultivates 180 hectares of vineyards, whilst the majority of its supply comes from independent partner growers.
