Histoire du domaine
Château Maucaillou was founded in 1875 by Mr Petit-Laroche, a wine merchant, near Moulis railway station. In 1929, the brothers Roger and André Dourthe acquired the estate along with the Caves et Entrepôts de Moulis. At that time, the vineyard covered 2.5 hectares, divided between red and white grape varieties according to the history published by the estate. Roger Dourthe, an agricultural engineer and oenologist, subsequently expanded the vineyard, which had grown to 32 hectares by the time of his death in 1984. His son Philippe Dourthe joined the family business in 1964, before taking over the management of Maucaillou in 1982. Under his leadership, the estate acquired, notably, Château Duplessis-Fabre in 1989, and by 2006 the vineyard had expanded to 72 hectares in Moulis and 18 hectares in the Haut-Médoc. In 1991, Philippe Dourthe bought out all the shares in Maucaillou and divided them amongst his children Caroline, Pascal and Magali. Since 2006, Pascal Dourthe has chaired the family group, whilst Magali Dourthe has been in charge of its technical management. A publication by the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux, released in 2026, confirms the continuation of this family succession centred on Pascal Dourthe.
