Histoire du domaine
The estate’s origins date back to the Peyraguey family, whose presence in Bommes is documented from the late 16th century; the first vines at Lafaurie-Peyraguey are said to have been planted in 1618. In 1682, the estate passed to Christophe de Tuquoy, then in 1709 to his niece Jeanne de Tuquoy and her son Pierre de Pichard. Under the de Pichard family, the estate was known as Château Pichard-Peyraguey and underwent significant alterations in the 18th century. After the Revolution, it was sold at auction in 1796 to Lafaurie and Mauros; Pierre Lafaurie subsequently became the sole owner and gave the château its definitive name. His son, also named Pierre Lafaurie, built up the estate’s reputation in the 19th century. Lafaurie-Peyraguey was listed amongst the premier crus classés of Sauternes in the 1855 classification. Count Charles-Marie Tanneguy Duchâtel modernised the facilities and renovated the château from 1865 onwards. The wine merchant Désiré Cordier acquired the estate in 1917 and prioritised a policy of quality. The Suez Group subsequently restored the estate before selling it to Silvio Denz in 2014. The estate is now managed by Vincent Cruege, with Simon Deleporte as cellar master.
