Histoire du domaine
The origins of La Lagune date back to the 16th century, when the ‘Village of La Lagune’, established around natural water sources, was transformed into a wine-growing estate. In the 17th century, Jean Lavaud, advisor to the king and inspector of the fortifications of Guyenne, expanded the estate through a series of acquisitions. The Lavaud family then had the Carthusian monastery built in its present form in the 18th century. The château was classified as a third grand cru in 1855. In 1886, the Bordeaux wine merchant Louis Seze took over the estate, before his daughter Marguerite succeeded him. Following the wars of the early 20th century, Georges Brunet took over the property in 1958 and began the replanting of the vineyard as well as the restoration of the Carthusian monastery. In 1961, the estate passed to René Chayoux, owner of the Ayala champagne house, and was subsequently passed on to Mr Ducellier. The Frey family became the owners in the early 2000s and undertook the modernisation of the vineyard, the fermentation cellar and the wine storehouse. Caroline Frey then took over the management of the estate in 2004. Delphine Frey succeeded her as vineyard manager, whilst Xavier Moragues joined the château as technical director in early 2025.
