Histoire du domaine
Château Fonroque was acquired in 1931 by Adèle and Jean Moueix, becoming the family’s Saint-Émilion home. Following a period under the management of Établissements Jean-Pierre Moueix, Alain Moueix, the great-grandson of the original buyers, took over the running of the estate in 2001. An agricultural engineer and oenologist, he then set the estate on a course of change in its viticultural practices. The move towards biodynamic farming began in 2002. The vineyard obtained organic certification in 2006, followed by Biodyvin biodynamic certification in 2008. That same year, Fonroque became the first Grand Cru Classé to be certified as biodynamic. In 2017, the Guillard family purchased the estate and retained Alain Moueix as a consultant. Ludovic Guibert, technical director since 2020, is involved in decisions regarding grape production, winemaking and blending. A new winery dedicated to plot-by-plot vinification came into operation in 2021.
