Histoire du domaine
The Beau-Séjour Bécot estate has been dedicated to winegrowing since Gallo-Roman times. From the 17th century onwards, it belonged to the de Gères family, before passing to the de Carles family through marriage at the start of the following century. In 1787, Jacques de Carles named the estate Beau-Séjour. In the late 1860s, the estate was divided amongst the Ducarpe heirs: the largest part went on to form the future Château Beau-Séjour Bécot, whilst another part became Château Beau-Séjour Héritiers Duffau-Lagarrosse. The wines from both estates continued to be marketed under the name Beauséjour until 1920. Michel Bécot acquired Beau-Séjour in 1969 and added his surname to the château’s name. He then expanded the estate by purchasing neighbouring plots and converted former limestone quarries beneath the vineyard into cellars for storing the bottles. After him, his sons Gérard and Dominique Bécot took over the estate and modernised both the cellar facilities and winemaking practices. Juliette Bécot joined the estate in 2001; she is part of the third generation of the family involved in its running. Julien Barthe, her husband, is the managing director and estate manager, whilst Willy Bouyer serves as cellar master. A new fermentation room and new ageing cellars were brought into use in 2023.
