Histoire du domaine
The house’s origins date back to the wine trading and production business run in Cologne by Peter Arnold Mumm from 1761 onwards. In 1827, his sons Gottlieb, Jacobus and Philipp established a branch in Reims with the Champenois G. Heuser, giving rise to the House of Mumm. In the 1840s, the house acquired its first plots of land in Verzenay and installed a wine press there. In 1852, Georges Hermann Mumm took over the management of G.H. Mumm & Co. and began building up the house’s vineyard. In the 1870s, the Cordon Rouge became Mumm’s distinctive mark. At the start of the 20th century, the house significantly expanded its export markets. René Lalou joined the board of directors in 1920; he reorganised the vineyard and made acquisitions in villages producing Grand Cru wines. Mumm is now owned by Pernod Ricard, as part of the Martell Mumm Perrier-Jouët subsidiary. Yann Munier was appointed cellar master on 8 April 2024.
