Histoire du domaine
Château de Laubade was built in 1870 in Sorbets, in the Gers, in the heart of the Bas-Armagnac region. The official website identifies Joseph Noulens, a French statesman, as its founder. The estate was taken over by the Lesgourgues family in 1974. Maurice Lesgourgues notably steered the estate towards extended ageing of the eaux-de-vie before bottling. His son Jean-Jacques succeeded him in developing the estate. The third generation of the family, comprising Denis, Jeanne and Arnaud Lesgourgues, now runs the estate. The vineyard comprises 105 hectares of contiguous vineyards dedicated to Bas-Armagnac, notably featuring Ugni Blanc, Baco, Colombard and Folle Blanche. The estate’s white wines are distilled in an Armagnac still installed in 1974, after which the eaux-de-vie are aged separately by grape variety and vintage. François Laura is the cellar master responsible, alongside the Lesgourgues family, for deciding on the blends following ageing.
