Abreu Vineyards
Abreu Vineyards is the estate of David Abreu, a major figure in contemporary Napa Valley viticulture. Its Bordeaux-inspired red wines come from four distinct vineyards — Madrona Ranch, Cappella, Thorevilos, and Las Posadas — farmed and vinified separately to preserve their identity. Brad Grimes leads the winemaking, notably through the co-fermentation of grape varieties harvested at shared maturity and through a particularly strict selection of barrels.

Histoire du domaine
Coming from a family of Napa Valley cattle ranchers and farmers, David Abreu worked in the region's historic vineyards from his youth. He founded his viticultural management company in 1980 and developed Madrona Ranch, which became the historic core of Abreu Vineyards. A first winemaking attempt took place in 1986, but David Abreu refused to commercialize that vintage; the 1987 thus constitutes the first vintage actually sold. The estate subsequently expanded to Cappella, a former St. Helena vineyard site planted as early as 1869, and then to Thorevilos, whose first grapes were harvested in 2000. David Abreu also acquired in 2000 the high-altitude property that would become Las Posadas, on Howell Mountain, and carried out the initial plantings there in 2002. By 2006, the estate's four vineyards were simultaneously in production. The winemaking, now directed by Brad Grimes, maintains the co-fermentation practiced from the very beginning and subjects around one hundred barrels to a selection that limits final production to some 12,000 bottles.

Histoire de la cuvée
David Abreu acquired the Howell Mountain property in 2000 and planted the vineyard there in 2002, matching the grape varieties to the soil, exposure, and altitude. Following a lengthy development of the site, the single-vineyard Las Posadas wine was produced for the first time in 2006.
