Histoire du domaine
Yamazaki Winery was founded in 2002 in Tappu, in the town of Mikasa, on the island of Hokkaidō. The project was launched by Kazuyuki Yamazaki, who comes from a family of farmers with a long-standing presence in the region. The establishment of the estate was part of a strategy to diversify and consolidate the family farm. The family planted their vines on the hills of Tappu, an area where the soils have an ancient marine origin and vary in composition depending on the plot. The estate was one of the first wine-producing establishments in the Sorachi region. In particular, it played a key role in the local development of European grape varieties in a cold climate, including Pinot Noir, which was then considered difficult to grow in Hokkaidō. The vineyard currently covers 13 hectares and is planted mainly with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The family legacy is now carried on by Ryoichi Yamazaki, who is in charge of winemaking, and his brother Taichi, who is responsible for viticulture and the estate’s general management.
