Histoire du domaine
The family estate was established by André Esmonin in the 1970s. Until the late 1980s, the harvest was mainly sold to merchant houses, notably Leroy, Jadot, and Drouhin. After completing viticultural and oenological training in Beaune, Frédéric Esmonin joined his father in 1988; this vintage marked the beginning of regular bottling and commercialization under the family label. In 2003, Frédéric purchased approximately 4.5 hectares of vines from his father, which were then associated with an announced production of 22,000 bottles per year. A 2011 professional source distinguishes Domaine des Estournelles, corresponding to the wines from the family vineyard, from the Frédéric Esmonin label used for the merchant activity; the latter has also produced several grands crus in the past under sharecropping or tenant farming contracts. André Esmonin was still involved alongside his son during a tasting at the estate in May 2023.
