Giuseppe Quintarelli Primofiore Veneto IGT 2020 Bouteille (75cl)
The 2020 Giuseppe Quintarelli Primofiore is a Veneto IGT red wine crafted in the Veneto region by Giuseppe Quintarelli. This cuvée blends Corvina, Corvinone, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc, bringing together native Verona varieties and Bordeaux grapes. The grapes undergo an appassimento drying process for about a month prior to fermentation, followed by one year of aging in large Slavonian oak casks. The vineyards dedicated to Primofiore sit on limestone and basalt soils.

Giuseppe Quintarelli
Giuseppe Quintarelli is a family-run estate in Negrar di Valpolicella, in the province of Verona, at the heart of the classic Valpolicella region. The estate, based in Cerè, is now run by Fiorenza Quintarelli, daughter of Giuseppe ‘Bepi’ Quintarelli, alongside her sons Francesco and Lorenzo. It produces, in particular, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella and Recioto wines, using an approach characterised by extended ageing.

Histoire du domaine
The history of the estate dates back to the early 20th century, when Silvio Quintarelli worked the vineyards at Figari, in the municipality of Marano di Valpolicella, alongside his brothers. In 1924, the family moved to Cerè in the Negrar Valley, where they continued their wine-growing business. In the 1950s, Giuseppe Quintarelli, known as ‘Bepi’, Silvio’s youngest son, took over the management of the estate. He then expanded the vineyard and the winery, whilst continuing to produce wine based on the traditional grape varieties and practices of Valpolicella. Giuseppe Quintarelli ran the estate until his death in 2012. The estate was then taken over by his daughter, Fiorenza Quintarelli. She now runs it alongside her sons, Francesco and Lorenzo. Winemaking is currently overseen by oenologist Dennis Borchia.
Primofiore
Primofiore is a Veneto IGT red wine blending equal parts of local Corvina and Corvinone varieties with Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Only the Cabernets undergo drying before vinification, after which the blend is aged in large Slavonian oak casks. It represents the earliest and most accessible red expression in the Quintarelli range.
- Origin of the cuvée name
- “Primofiore” literally means “first flower” and designates the estate's first red wine released for a given vintage.
- Style of the cuvée
- A relatively fresh and immediate dry red by the estate's standards, combining red and black fruit, floral and spicy notes, tannic structure, and moderate richness derived from the partial drying of the grapes.
- Position within the range
- The first red wine released and the entry-level cuvée of the Quintarelli family.
