Domain Sauzet Batard Montrachet 2015 Magnum
The 2015 Domaine Sauzet Bâtard-Montrachet is a white Burgundy wine from the Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru, located in the Puligny-Montrachet area. This 100% Chardonnay comes from the estate's Bâtard-Montrachet parcel. The cru rests on a clay-rich soil, an element that contributes to its power and density. Domaine Sauzet's vineyard is farmed biodynamically, reflecting a pursuit of precision and respect for the vine.

Histoire du domaine
Étienne Sauzet founded the estate in Puligny-Montrachet in the first half of the 20th century, starting with vines he had inherited and subsequently expanding through further acquisitions. He gradually developed the estate, which, according to industry sources, reached just over 12 hectares by the middle of the century. On his death in 1975, his granddaughter Jeanine and her husband Gérard Boudot took over the management of the estate. A division of the estate’s assets in 1991 then significantly reduced the vineyard’s original area. Since then, the estate has supplemented its own vines by purchasing grapes for certain cuvées. Émilie Boudot joined the business from the 2000 vintage onwards, followed by Benoît Riffault in 2002. Benoît Riffault gradually took charge of winemaking and succeeded Gérard Boudot in this role. The vineyard is now managed using biodynamic methods, under the responsibility of Émilie Boudot and Benoît Riffault.
Bâtard-Montrachet (Puligny Montrachet)
Bâtard-Montrachet is both a Grand Cru appellation and a physically demarcated climat, shared between Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet. It occupies the lower part of the slope, exposed mainly to the east and south-east, at around 240 to 250 metres of altitude. Its brown limestone soils are thicker and more clayey towards the foothill, with clay colluvium relatively poor in stones. The substrate consists mainly of platy limestones from the Middle Jurassic, attributed to the Callovian.

Histoire de la parcelle
The "Bâtard" climat was already distinguished from Montrachet in the 18th century, although its wines were long assimilated with those of Montrachet. A 1921 judgment consecrated the use of the name "Bâtard-Montrachet" and the local hierarchy of grand crus. The AOC was recognized by the decree of 31 July 1937; its plot area was initially demarcated in 1939, then approved by the INAO in 1988 for Chassagne-Montrachet and in 1989 for Puligny-Montrachet.
