Histoire du domaine
Historical research by the Saint-Émilion Grands Crus Classés Association traces the existence of a Yon estate back to the early 19th century. The name Château Yon-Figeac appears in the 1881 edition of Féret, the reference work on the Bordeaux vineyards. The current manor house was built in 1886. The estate was classified as a Grand Cru Classé of Saint-Émilion in the very first classification of 1955. Alain Château, an engineer by training and a former industrialist, acquired the property in 2005. He then enlisted the services of Denis Dubourdieu as a consultant oenologist, followed by Christophe Ollivier. The vineyard now covers 24 hectares and the grapes are harvested by hand. The vinification facility was refurbished in 2021 to enable plot-by-plot vinification in temperature-controlled stainless-steel vats. The estate states that it has been practising sustainable agriculture since 2011 and has been ISO 14001 certified since 2013, as well as HVE Level 3 certified since the 2016 vintage.
