Histoire du domaine
The earliest documented records of the estate date back to 1513, when a property named Mayne de Soutard is mentioned in the parish of Saint-Émilion. Jean Coutures, a bourgeois and jurat of Saint-Émilion, acquired the property in 1699. In the 18th century, Jean Combret de Faurie notably developed the practice of planting vines in rows and had furrows dug into the limestone. The main body of the château was built between 1741 and 1762 on the initiative of Marie Couture. In the 19th century, the winegrower Jean Laveau bought Soutard. In 1919, Jeanne du Foussat de Bogeron brought the estate as a dowry to Michel des Ligneris; their descendants managed it until 2006. That year, AG2R LA MONDIALE acquired the property, which is now owned by its wine company, La Mondiale Grands Crus. Château Cadet-Piola, acquired by the group in 2009, was incorporated into Château Soutard following the 2012 Saint-Émilion classification. Renovation work on the cellars began in 2011 and the château was listed as a historic monument in 2015. In May 2026, Frédéric Chabaneau was appointed technical director of La Mondiale Grands Crus’s estates in Saint-Émilion, including Château Soutard.
