Château Leoville Las Cases 1974 Jéroboam (300cl) EA
Château Léoville Las Cases 1974 is a red Saint-Julien wine, 2nd Grand Cru Classé in 1855, produced in Bordeaux by Château Léoville Las Cases. Its blend consists of 65% cabernet sauvignon, 19% merlot, 13% cabernet franc, and 3% petit verdot. The grand vin comes predominantly from the historic terroirs of the Clos Léoville Las Cases, just outside Saint-Julien toward Pauillac; this walled vineyard notably combines quaternary gravel, gravelly sands, clays, and gravelly-clay subsoils. In its 1985 tasting, The Wine Advocate awarded it 70/100 with a drinking window located in 1985. The publication noted a still-youthful color, but reticent fruit, an austere palate that softened over time, and a short finish.

Histoire du domaine
The origins of the Léoville estate date back to the 17th century. Before passing to the de Las Cases family, it belonged to several French noble families. The aftermath of the French Revolution led to its division between 1826 and 1840. Château Léoville Las Cases was then formed from three-fifths of the former estate, comprising its heartland. It was classified as a second growth in the 1855 classification. Pierre-Jean, Adolphe and Gabriel de Las Cases succeeded one another at the head of the estate until 1900. That year, Théophile Skawinski acquired a share of the estate and became its estate manager. Le Clos du Marquis was created in 1902 from plots distinct from those of the grand vin. Since the late 19th century, the estate has been managed by the same family, now represented by Jean-Hubert Delon, the sole owner. Umberto Marino currently serves as cellar master there.
