Histoire du domaine
The Fesles estate has a long history of wine-making: writings by the monks of Gué de Berge mention the Bonnezeaux vineyard as early as 1055. The present-day manor house and its grounds were built in the 18th century in Thouarcé, now part of the commune of Bellevigne-en-Layon. Over the centuries, the estate belonged to several aristocratic families, who maintained the château and gradually expanded the vineyard. In the 19th century, the Boivin family acquired the estate. Over three generations, they contributed to the expansion of the vineyard and the evolution of viticultural and winemaking practices, despite the phylloxera crisis. In 1991, whilst Gaston Lenôtre was the owner, the château underwent a complete restoration. The estate was acquired in 2008 by the Grands Chais de France group, controlled by the Helfrich family. The Helfrich family remains the owners of the château. Gilles Bigot, who has been with the estate for around three decades, serves as vineyard manager and cellar master. The Château de Fesles vineyard has been certified organic since 2022.
