Domaine Raymond Trollat
The name Trollat refers to the estate of Raymond Trollat, a former Saint-Joseph producer based in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, in the Ardèche. Raymond Trollat ceased operations after the 2005 vintage; the estate no longer exists as an independent wine-growing business.
Histoire du domaine
Raymond Trollat was born on 7 April 1931 in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols and joined his father in working the vineyards in 1940. In the 1960s, local production was mainly sold in bulk to wine merchants and a regional clientele. The recognition of the Saint-Joseph appellation in 1956 enabled the estate to market its wines in bottles and expand its customer base. Raymond Trollat made his wine in a small cellar beneath his house in Saint-Jean-de-Muzols. From the 1970s onwards, a connection with an American importer helped to raise the profile of his wines outside France. As he approached retirement, he leased and then sold his three hectares of vines to Domaine Gonon; other plots were also passed on to neighbouring winegrowers. The 2005 vintage was the last to be produced under his name. Raymond Trollat passed away on 19 February 2023. Consequently, there is no longer any vineyard, annual production, owner or person currently in charge of winemaking under the name Domaine Raymond Trollat.
