Histoire du domaine
Born in 1969, Frédéric Magnien is part of the fifth generation of winegrowers in the Magnien family in Morey-Saint-Denis. He worked at Domaine Michel Magnien alongside his father between 1987 and 1991. He then rounded off his training with stints at Josh Jensen’s Calera estate in California, followed by Garry Farr’s Bannockburn Vineyard in Australia. Returning to Burgundy for the 1993 harvest, he undertook a course in oenology at the University of Burgundy. In September 1995, he founded Société Frédéric Magnien, a wine merchant and producer. The initial model for this business was based on purchasing grapes from partner winegrowers, with Frédéric Magnien also acting as an adviser on the management of the vineyards. The company then handles the harvest, winemaking, ageing, bottling and dispatch. Winemaking operations have been carried out in accordance with the lunar cycles since 1996. The company is now managed by Frédéric Magnien and owned by the family holding company Magnien Fred. A publication from 2025 mentions 16 hectares allocated to Frédéric Magnien, but the currently available information from the winery and its distributor still describes the business as not owning any vineyards; this contradiction makes it impossible to state with certainty the size of its own vineyards.
