Domaine Nicolas Rossignol Volnay Cailleret 2009 Bouteille (75cl)
The 2009 Domaine Nicolas Rossignol Volnay Cailleret is a red Burgundy wine from the Les Caillerets climat, classified as a Premier Cru within the Volnay appellation. Crafted exclusively from Pinot Noir, it comes from a steep, south-east facing slope with clay-limestone soils resting on a hard limestone layer rich in stones. The estate describes this cuvée as an elegant and delicate Volnay with a silky texture, whose palate combines floral expression, minerality, length and complexity.

Histoire du domaine
Born in 1974, Nicolas Rossignol represents the fifth generation of a winemaking family established in Volnay. Trained at the Beaune viticultural high school, he completed his apprenticeship with experiences at Domaine Joseph Voillot in Volnay, Louis Latour in Ardèche, and Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, before vinifying in 1995 at Boschendal in South Africa and working at Château La Cardonne, a property then associated with Château Lafite Rothschild. He vinified at the family estate Rossignol-Jeanniard starting in 1994 before creating his own estate in 1997, initially comprising 3 hectares spread across Volnay, Pommard, Beaune, Aloxe-Corton, and Pernand-Vergelesses. By 1998, the combined operations with Rossignol-Jeanniard covered nearly 16 hectares. In 2005, new parcels from Domaine Robert Ampeau further enriched the range, notably in Savigny-lès-Beaune and Beaune. The two structures merged in 2011 under the single label Domaine Nicolas Rossignol, then representing nearly thirty appellations, and the operation was transferred to Beaune. In 2014, an additional 1.5 hectares in Pommard and Pommard Premier Cru joined the estate, whose announced surface area today reaches 17 hectares.
Les Caillerets (Volnay)
Les Caillerets is an officially classified Premier Cru climat of the Volnay appellation, located on the hillside south of the village. Historically, it corresponds to the cadastral lieux-dits "En Cailleret" and "Cailleret Dessus" in section AW, and notably includes the Clos des 60 Ouvrées. The terrain has an eastern exposure, on a regular and well-draining slope, featuring fine silty-sandy clays mixed with abundant gravel. The altitude and geology data published by the interprofessional body pertain to the entire Volnay hillside and do not allow for precise detailing of the boundaries of this single climat.

Histoire de la parcelle
The name "En Cailleret" already appears in a royal estate land register dated 1507, alongside other Volnay climats still recognized today. Departmental archives note its toponymic and viticultural continuity, as well as the old saying, "He who has no vines in En Cailleret does not know what Volnay is worth." The climat "Les Caillerets" is today expressly listed among the climats that may accompany the Premier Cru designation in the official Volnay specifications.
