Histoire du domaine
The Deiss family has been established in Alsace for several generations; the estate states that they settled there following the Thirty Years’ War and the province’s annexation by France. Marcel Deiss founded the estate in Bergheim in 1947, after the Second World War. He developed the estate alongside his son André. Jean-Michel Deiss, Marcel’s grandson, subsequently took over the family estate and focused his work on interpreting the wines through the lens of terroir and soil rather than solely through the grape variety. The estate adopted organic farming in 1994, followed by biodynamic practices across all its plots in 1997. Mixed planting – which involves combining several grape varieties within the same plot and harvesting and vinifying them together – became a central principle of the estate’s operations. Mathieu Deiss joined the estate in 2008 and took charge of winemaking. He now runs the estate, with the support of Jean-Michel Deiss.
