Domain Leroy Meursault Genevrieres 1994
Domaine Leroy Meursault Genevrières 1994 is a white Burgundy wine from the Meursault appellation, crafted by Domaine Leroy. Classified as a Meursault Premier Cru, it originates from the Genevrières climat, a lieu-dit authorized to complete the Meursault Premier Cru designation. This single-varietal wine is composed of 100% Chardonnay. It thus brings together the identity of a Côte de Beaune white, the precisely identified origin of Genevrières, and premier cru status.

Histoire du domaine
The Leroy family’s history in the wine industry began in 1868, when François Leroy founded Maison Leroy in Auxey-Duresses, a wine merchant business distinct from the current Domaine Leroy. His son Joseph expanded the business, and his grandson Henri Leroy joined the company in 1919. In 1942, Henri Leroy acquired a stake of approximately half of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. His daughter, Lalou Bize-Leroy, joined the family business in 1955 and became its chairwoman in 1971. She was co-manager of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti from 1974 to 1992. In the late 1980s, she acquired vineyards from the Charles Noëllat estate in Vosne-Romanée in 1988, followed by the Philippe-Rémy estate in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1989: these acquisitions form the Domaine Leroy as it stands today. The transition to biodynamic viticulture began during this period. Lalou Bize-Leroy remains the owner of the estate and is directly involved in the winemaking and ageing processes.
Genevrières (Meursault)
Genevrières is a climat officially classified as a Premier Cru of the AOC Meursault, located in the heart of the Premier Cru slope. Its area brings together the lieux-dits Les Genevrières Dessus, Les Genevrières Dessous, part of Les Chaumes des Perrières, and part of Les Chaumes de Narvaux. Sources describe clay-limestone soils and a variable subsoil composed of rocky scree, limestone slabs, or white limestone rock. The altitude, slope, and exposure data published by certain estates concern their own parcels and are therefore not retained as quantified characteristics of the climat as a whole.
- Vineyard commune
- Meursault
- Origin of the vineyard name
- The name refers to the juniper, a shrub suited to poor limestone soils exposed to the winds, which was once present on the Côte.
- Soil
- Clay-limestone soils, with variations between stonier sectors and sectors with deeper soils.
- Subsoil and geology
- Rocky scree, slabs, or bedrock and white limestone depending on the sectors of the climat.
Histoire de la parcelle
The terroir appears in the form "En Genevrier" in a rental roll of the lordship of Meursault dated 1608-1609. Les Genevrières Dessous also appear in the historical cadastral documents of Meursault, while the modern delimitation of the climat groups together several cadastral lieux-dits. Genevrières is today officially recognized among the climats that can complement the Meursault appellation with the "premier cru" mention.
