Histoire du domaine
The estate took the name Suduiraut in 1580, following the marriage of Nicole d’Allard to Léonard de Suduiraut. During the Fronde, between 1648 and 1653, the old manor house was burnt down. Blaise de Suduiraut, the couple’s grandson, had a new château built around 1670. In 1748, the estate passed to Joseph Duroy, Blaise’s nephew, and became Château Duroy. Towards the end of the 18th century, it was also known as Cru du Roy. In 1804, the estate passed successively to the wife of Joseph Duroy’s grandson, and then to his steward, Nicolas Edme Guillot de Suduiraut. A land consolidation in 1815 marked the return of the name Château Suduiraut. The estate was classified as a Sauternes Premier Cru on 18 April 1855. Sold to Henri Ferdinand Rabourdin in 1875, it was subsequently passed on to his daughter Lucie, whose marriage to Émile Petit de Forest preceded the modernisation of the vineyard and the winery between 1892 and 1898. Following its acquisition by Léopold François Fonquernie in 1940, the château was taken over and modernised by AXA Millésimes in 1992. Christian Seely became managing director in 2001 and Pierre Montégut was appointed technical director in 2004; that same year marked the start of dry white wine production at the estate.
