Histoire du domaine
In the Middle Ages, the terroir of La Tour Haut-Brion formed part of the La Tour Rostaing estate. The Rostaing family were already cultivating vines there in the 16th century. In the mid-18th century, the estate belonged to Guillaume Joseph Saige. It then passed to the Cayrou brothers in the 19th century, who added ‘Haut-Brion’ to its name. In the 1930s, the estate became part of the Woltner family’s holdings, which were then linked to the neighbouring property of Château La Mission Haut-Brion. La Tour Haut-Brion was classified as a Graves cru classé for red wines in the 1953 classification. Domaine Clarence Dillon acquired Château La Mission Haut-Brion and its associated estates, including La Tour Haut-Brion, in 1983. The estate was then managed as part of the same technical operation as Haut-Brion and La Mission Haut-Brion. The 2005 vintage was the last to be produced under the Château La Tour Haut-Brion label. From the 2006 harvest onwards, the grapes were incorporated into the wines of Château La Mission Haut-Brion, bringing an end to the estate’s independent commercial existence.
